The Business Development Manager will work to execute the sales strategy for the Milk Protein Concentrate, Cream and Milk Permeate Product business under the direction of the Vice President of Sales & Marketing. The position will be responsible for the facilitation and development of our Sales strategy. He/she will develop and maintain long-term business and technical relationships with existing customers while actively building business with potential customers, serving as the primary commercial interface with our New Product Development function.

Facilitates the annual strategic planning process for Sales and Marketing.
Leads the planning and implementation of business development activities.
Key interface between R&D and Sales; responsible for the oversight of technical selling requirements and application development work that will be used to deliver value added ingredient differentiation to customers.
Preparation and implementation of plans for effective search of sales leads and prospects. Prepares technical presentations, presents proposals and presentations to customers and trains sales team on the presentation of technical subjects.
Support of the strategy process, business development activities and support of the Sales Management and Customer Service functions.
Analyses performance by customer, monitors customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts.
Prepares customer development action plans as well as plans for effective search of sales leads and prospects.
Researches and understands markets and competition.
Helps to grow the organizational profitability through analysis of new product and new business opportunities.
Prepares internal communications and presentations related to key performance metrics, program and project updates. Prepares and presents proposals and presentations as needed.
Maintains close communication within industry to stay abreast of competitive activity, pricing and market trends.
Represents company and promotes products at conferences and trade shows.
Maintains accurate records of all interactions, contacts, pricing discussion/agreements, sales, etc. within customer resource management program.
Performs special projects that support the Vice President of Sales & Marketing with the evaluation of new product and business opportunities.
Participates as an effective team member in cross functional process improvement teams.
Manages costs in line with budget.
Provides leadership in living our purpose, vision and values.
Performs other duties and projects as required.


Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology, Dairy Science, Business or another relevant field.
_Minimum _of 7-10 years of experience in dairy ingredient technical sales support, business development or sales.
Training and knowledge of principles and methods for presenting and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
MBA or equivalent would be an advantage.

Knowledge and Skills:
Proven ability to drive value-added sales performance, manage new product development projects with customers, present concepts and negotiate pricing agreements appropriately with customers, meet demanding time schedules and effectively lead in a technical salesperson/relationship role.
Understanding of dairy and food industry product development process, market dynamics and ingredient requirements.
Personable, able to build strong relationships with customers and colleagues.
Effective at time management, organizing, planning, and prioritizing work.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent ability to understand and translate customer requirements and excellent ability to interact and cooperate with company employees in all functional disciplines.
Tenacious self-starter with a mature outlook. Proven ability to operate independently and collaboratively to achieve defined goals on time. Enthusiastic, committed and conscientious.
Creative, strategic thinker: able to meaningfully contribute to the development of the company's short and long-term strategy.
Effective decision maker and problem solver. Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose a solution that benefits both the supplier and the customer.

Strong computer literacy and quantitative skills to manage data, process and communicate information.

Required travel of 50% with occasional periods up to 75%.
